Easy Halloween Riddles for Kids Ages 5 to 7
Most of these 65 riddles rhyme, and the rhyme is a clue: the answer usually fits the beat of the last line. For kids ages 5 to 7, read each riddle out loud twice and give them about 10 seconds before offering the first letter of the answer. For kids 8 and up, treat this section as a warm-up and set a timer: how many can they solve in 3 minutes?
Picture a 6-year-old at a Halloween party who can't read yet. You read the first riddle slowly, twice, and by the time you reach "glowing grin" she's already shouting the answer. That's the rhyme doing its job, and it's why this section comes first.

Tricky Halloween Riddles for Big Kids Ages 8 to 11
These 15 riddles don't rhyme, and they don't play fair. The answers hide inside spelling, math and sneaky wording, so read every word. Give big kids about 30 seconds per riddle before a hint, and if a younger sibling wants in, pair them up: one reads, one guesses.
Say your 10-year-old breezes through all 65 easy riddles in the car and announces they're "too easy." Hand over the word scrambles and the sneaky math riddles below, and watch the counting on fingers begin. The goal isn't to stump them for good. It's that proud grin when the answer finally clicks.
66. Take away my first letter and I'm a place inside your house. Put it back and I'm the ride that sweeps across the sky in spooky stories. What am I?
Answer: A broom. Take away the B and you get ROOM.

Answer: The robot. The line goes robot, dragon, pirate.
73. After the Halloween party, Grandma has 12 chocolate coins. She gives half to Ruby, then half of what is left to Max. How many does Grandma keep?
Answer: 3. Ruby gets 6, Max gets 3, and 3 are left.
74. How many pieces of candy can you drop into an empty treat bag?
Answer: One. After the first piece, the bag isn't empty anymore!
75. Which is heavier: a pound of gummy bears or a pound of feathers?
Answer: Neither. They both weigh one pound.
76. If 3 barn cats catch 3 mice in 3 minutes, how many barn cats would it take to catch 100 mice in 100 minutes?
Answer: 3 barn cats. Each cat catches 1 mouse every 3 minutes, so together they catch about 1 mouse a minute.
77. Ten kids head out on Halloween night. All but 4 get sleepy and go home. How many are still out collecting candy?
Answer: 4. "All but 4" means 4 are left.
78. It's dark, and a camper has one match. In front of her are a candle, a lantern and a pile of firewood. What should she light first?
Answer: The match!
79. Mix up the letters in LIAR and you'll find the dark cave where a dragon sleeps. What word am I?
Answer: LAIR.
80. On November 1, your candy jar holds 20 pieces. You eat 2 pieces every day for one week. How many pieces are left?
Answer: 6. Two a day for 7 days is 14, and 20 take away 14 is 6.
How to Play Halloween Riddles at a Party, in Class or at the Door
The simplest game works almost everywhere: one person reads a riddle, everyone else guesses, and the first right answer earns a piece of candy. What changes is how you set it up, and that depends on where you are and who's playing.
At a party with mixed ages: give the rhyming riddles to kids 7 and under and the tricky ones to everyone older, so nobody is stuck waiting while a big kid answers first. In a classroom: read one riddle each morning in October and let kids write guesses on a sticky note, then reveal the answer before the last bell. For a class party, play in teams.
Picture a second-grade party with 24 kids and 20 minutes before the buses: four teams of six, one riddle per team in turn, points on the board. Every kid gets a turn to answer, and nobody sits out.
At the front door: long before anyone called it trick-or-treating, kids in Scotland and Ireland went "guising." They dressed up, went door to door and put on a small performance, like a song or a poem, to earn their treat. A riddle makes a perfect performance.
Say a 7-year-old in a dragon costume rings your bell. You ask her the jack-o'-lantern riddle, she shouts the answer before you finish, and she walks away with two treats instead of one. Heading out yourself? The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests reflective tape on costumes and treat bags so drivers can spot kids after dark.

Whichever way you play, four moves keep it fun:
- Match the riddles to the youngest player in each group, not the oldest.
- Read every riddle twice before anyone guesses.
- Offer a hint after about 10 seconds for little kids and 30 seconds for big kids.
- Let the solver pick who gets the next riddle, so the turns spread around the room.
